Dr. Rustam DeVitre’s expertise in dentistry spans many subjects, giving him the unique ability to masterfully treat the most complex oral rehabilitation cases. He is a Prosthodontist who is known for his capacity to manage and treat complex occlusal dysfunction related to tempomandibular joint disorders. Dr.DeVitre’s passion also involves surgical interests in implant dentistry and he has developed techniques in immediate implant placement in areas of the sinus and select cases with just one surgical involvement. His background is centered around esthetics, as he has a meticulous eye for detail and understands what is cosmetically appealing to the patient. Dr. DeVitre has researched implants, cementation, using modern Resin cement, dental ceramics, and computer-aided design in dentistry—His work has been published in the Journal of Prosthodontic Dentistry and other research journals. Currently, he has a patent pending on an implant drill that can place an implant with just one drill instead of multiple drills. Dr. DeVitre has traveled internationally on faculty with the International Academy of Dental Implantology to China, Korea, and Mexico.
In 1973, Dr. DeVitre graduated from Government Dental College, in Bombay, India, where he also completed Orthodontics MDS1. He then attended the Postgraduate Program in Prosthodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine from 1974-1976 and received his Certificate of Prosthodontics in 1976. In 1977, he joined Tufts’ predoctoral class and obtained his DMD degree. From 1976-1984, Dr. DeVitre taught in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at Tufts as an Assistant Professor while simultaneously working in the faculty practice. Dr. DeVitre then started his Prosthodontic-implant practice in Boston, where he continues to practice. Along with his wife and daughter at Hingham Dentistry, Dr.DeVitre devotes 70 percent of his time towards the practice of surgical implant dentistry.
Outside of work, Dr. DeVitre enjoys supporting entrepreneurship and has invested in several startup companies to broaden his interest and in keeping up with technology. Dr.DeVitre also devotes time as a director on the Tufts Dental alumnus board helping raise funds for the student scholarship program. Dr.DeVitre is a nature conservationist and has contributed towards preserving land for conservation purposes. Dr.DeVitre’s pastimes also include sharing his love of kiting, boating, and travel with his wife, two children, and two grandchildren.
